Wooden Decks

the story of JASCO:

A refinish turned decking overhaul allowed us to incorporate our creative designs with an existing frame to add character and style to this backyard. In addition to framing upgrades and custom diagonal borders, our favorite part about this design turned into the focal piece – the wraparound platform stairs. We began the renovation with different expectations than its final result, but we are thrilled with the outcome!

the story of BUGGIN’:

After working outside for many years, we’re generally no longer bothered by bugs. But on this project, we encountered all types of pesky wildlife. I’m glad we’re not afraid of snakes! Nevertheless, we enjoyed incorporating unique elements in this design like the stair lighting, extra tall posts for string lights, and a specifically-requested lattice skirt.

the story of THE HILLS HAVE EYES:

We had some very special supervisors on this reno. Often peering out the window, the neighborhood kids regularly checked in on the renovation's progress. We are hopeful that this new build will create a usable backyard space for this family (and all of the neighbors' kids) to enjoy!

the story of DEAR OLD FRIEND:

This project was one of those “life comes full circle” moments. We had a chance to create a new entertainment space for a former high school mentor. Without his investment of time and creating opportunity in the past, we couldn’t have gotten to where we are today.

the story of WANDERER

One of the most difficult but most rewarding aspects of our job is finding solutions to atypical challenges. No two projects are the same and no two sets of challenges are equal. We’ll remember this one!

the story of FLOWER CHILD:

We often have little Bob-the-Builders who like to watch us throughout the construction process. It brightens our day to get waves and giggles through the windows. In this case, our young friend even gifted us a flower at the end of the renovation!

the story of DIAGON ALLEY:

While there wasn’t any magic involved in this deck’s construction, there were lots and lots of diagonals! As per the client’s wishes, this new deck is splinter-free and ready to be enjoyed by our client’s growing family.

the story of CAP & THE NOSY NEIGHBOR:

This client needed more built-in backyard seating as the host house for the neighborhood kids' basketball games. With these expansive wraparound stairs, plus the help of a friend who laid the concrete pad, we were stoked to create a new space for the young audience to cheer on their friends.

the story of DODGING PEANUT(S):

Work hard, play hard; that’s your life motto too, right? With a recently hired old friend turned employee, we sometimes get a little carried away on the job site. Nevertheless, the renovation is completed and this new wooden deck is ready just in time to be enjoyed for spring.

the story of STORMY WEDNESDAY:

Every now and then we have a client that encourages us to be creative and different in our design and techniques. Although difficult to see in the pictures, this backyard had a steep elevation change. To account for the change, we created a unique cascading staircase so that the stairs blend right into the natural landscape.

the story of MOTHER OF SAHARA:

Let’s talk about heat. This client requested a deck with a roof to prevent the insane amount of sunshine that pours into the back of her house - so much so that it melted the siding! We were a little crazy to do this project in the July sun, but we’re happy to provide a space for this client where they can finally keep cool.

the story of ROCKY ROAD:

As the next season of summer heat arrives, we wanted nothing more than to join our clients for a swim; we settled for ice cream instead! We can’t wait to hear about all of the exciting summer memories that come from jumping off this deck into the pool.

the story of SURPRISE INSIDE:

The demolition of old rotten decks always leaves the ability for unexpected surprises to arise. This reno did not disappoint! After replacing some rotten portions of the house that were hidden by the old deck, we were able to provide this client with some assurance and comfort about the stability and long-lasting structure of their new deck. Although this reno had some surprises in store for us, we love the final product!

This cute platform deck makes a great addition to our client’s backyard. We hope that this space will be a place where they can grill out and spend time with their loved ones on warm spring and summer nights!
